About Ryedale
The group was formed in January 2006 to enable all those with an interest in GNU/Linux and Free/Open Source Software within the Ryedale area to meet. We offer a mailing list and regular meetings which vary from gathering in a pub for a pint and a yarn, on-line meets via IRC to presentations from guest speakers at a local community centre.
We are here to promote the use of GNU/Linux, Free/Open Source Software, the BSD group and other Unix based systems. Whether you've been writing code for thirty years or are interested in finding out more about alternatives to your current operating system we should have something to offer you.
We are a lively, social group and encourage a friendly and open atmosphere at all of our meets. Membership is free to all of our events and activities. You don't have to live in Ryedale to subscribe to the mailing list, all are welcome. We actively encourage close contact with surrounding LUGs as this helps us all in the long term. We don't expect everyone to be active members attending all meetings – although you will get more from the group. All we ask is that you visit our mailing list and introduce yourself!
If you are from outside the area and would like to know more about Ryedale; please visit http://www.ryedale.co.uk to find out where we are and what happens in our part of the UK.
