<div>I used to be a Solaris Admin and I'm a huge fan of unix based systems. A job I had led to me exclusively using Linux for the intranet and developing in php. The chap I was working with was a massive Linux (slackware) fan and he got me into it. I wasn't that keen at first, having played with very early SUSE linux -- it didn't seem as tidy as Solaris, but then I guess Solaris used to only support a very distinct set of platforms and hardware. I've most recently been trying to use it as a desktop and also playing around with Asterisk.

<div>Fedora/Redhat and OpenSUSE/SUSE, mainly because I figure these are the two main corporate distributions which are likely to be used in business. I mainly used SUSE because it was from Europe, but more recently because of the excellent Mono project, but now that's available in Fedora, so currently running that...

<div>Not sure really... Nice to catch up with like minded people and talk about the various uses of the platform. Maybe some development sessions, perhaps a group application project -- I've read loads about it and it would be nice to go through the process and see the whole thing through...

I've been using Linux since 1995 when I was writing cross-platform<br>network software that had to work on UNIX, Linux, VMS, Windows, OS/9,<br>DOS, etc.<br>Originally development was on SunOS and ported, but after 6 months I
<br>changed that around to development primarily on Linux systems (along<br>with changing the network infrastructure to use Linux servers).<br><br>Unfortunately when I changed jobs it moved further away from Linux until<br>
2 years ago when we were 'forced' to install Debian on a PC to get a<br>critical piece of software running, and since then I have been<br>convincing my boss to increase our Linux usage, to the point that we<br>are now seriously considering porting our server software to Linux.
