I've never used Linode, but I think I'll start now ;)

I've just got an HTC Desire HD, lovely phone, not rooted it yet, but I will
do in a few weeks.
Tony has my old HTC Hero, thats been rooted and is running villainrom 1.7.2,
which I think is based on Cyanogenmod 6.
