Interesting stuff.

Just to pick up on the point about users trying Ubuntu for the first
time...I remember Phil Wyett, very early on in the life of the LUG,
telling me to put new users on a Long Term Support version of Ubuntu
(even year number.04), and not really understanding (But what about the
latest greatest features? They're missing out!)

I would now definitely agree with Phil. I recently moved a friend from
Windows to Linux and Ubuntu 10.04 was my choice. (AFAIK) Stable, no need
to upgrade for another couple of years, just works etc.

BTW, I also understand that if you don't like the new desktop stuff, you
can "choose to launch the classic desktop experience when you log in to
your computer." http://www.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/whats-new

I haven't tried it so I don't know!

Cheers
David
