<br>Hi guys,<br>An interesting story (which I'm sure some of you will have read) about fighting theft with a macbook and webcam!<a href="http://www.geek.com/articles/apple/thieves-caught-on-stolen-macbook-webcam-20080513/"> (here)</a>. An example of software which builds on this idea is <a href="http://adeona.cs.washington.edu/index.html">Adeona</a> where at given intervals logs the laptop IP location, something worth researching a bit more?<br>

hiya david <br><br><br>I use Luks ( <a href="http://luks.endorphin.org/" target="_blank">http://luks.endorphin.org/</a> ) for my hard drive encryption its part of the installer on the ubuntu alternate cd this keeps all my documents safe<br>
<br>i also use it on my removable backups /usb keys to ensure the backup is safe<br><br>paranoid little bunny i am :D<br><br><br> ubutnu 8.10 also has a "private folder" that makes one folder encrypted if you don't want to go down the whole disk encryption road<br>

I'd be interested to hear a bit about keeping your portable data safe.<br>

In the light of government gaffs over lost laptops etc, what should we<br>
be doing to keep the data on our laptops, pen drives, ipods(?) (I don't<br>
have one!) safe if we lose them?<br>
