I immediately think of Linux applications but, perhaps, the CVS might
only want apps. for that other OS.
There are some that are Xplatform such as Firefox and Picasa but many
are confined to one platform only. So, I think clarification is
necessary here.
Further, is an add-on to Firefox eligible? For that I would have to put WOT at No.1, for FF add-ons, particularly for non-Linux/Mac users

These are some of mine, not necessarily in order:-
1. KeePassX/KeePass
2. TrueCrypt
3. Firefox
4. Tomboy
5. MythTV
6. Avant Windows Navigator
7. Pan Newsreader (because it has good customisable spam filters)
8. VLC
9. Audacity
10. gScan2pdf (don't use it for scanning but to convert multiple jpegs into pdf (my scanner doesn't work so I just use a camera.)
11. Gimp
12. Picasa
I've not included the more
specialised stuff like Geany, Compiz, Apache,PHP etc. but the above are ones I use on a very regular basis

Brian
