<p>Openbox on Crunchbang gives you virtual desktops. It just doesn't waste all your resources by doing 3d rendering of everything. It's very nice for a machine you work on every day - no waste and no having to learn anything new to use it.</p>
<p>My setup at work is Openbox with dualhead and two virtual desktops. I was running three monitors for a while, the third being a Windows 7 box controlled by Synchronicity, but I had to give it back. Partly because colleagues mocked me for hiding behind a wall of monitors but mostly because our new project manager needed a machine. I found I use the right-most monitor as spare space until the others are 'full' regardless of how many monitors I run. Three made a real productivity difference, more so than adding a second monitor - but maybe I would just get used to that and want a fourth.</p>

If we're going for reducing mouse usage then why not go all the way and use something like Ratpoison or any of the other window managers which use similar ideas to Screen or vim windows.</div>
