Always good to ask the 'Why do you do it that way' question.<div><br></div><div>I guess the answer is pretty much that's how it turned out between the people involved at the time. The whole set up is as a result of individuals getting on and doing stuff, and in general people seem to have been happy to come along for the ride.</div>
<div><br></div><div>Certainly I saw Richard Stallman talk either before the group started or soon after and I found his arguments persuasive, so that may have had an effect.</div><div><br></div><div>I'd like to think that the direction/custodianship/rules of the group are there to be discussed or taken up by individuals or groups with a desire to see the group move in one direction or the other, while also being aware that without formal structures that can be hard to do. </div>
<div><br></div><div>Anyway. I think that's the why. If people interested in change then let the debate begin.</div><div><br></div><div>Cheers</div><div>David</div><div class="gmail_extra"><br><br><div class="gmail_quote">

My guess would be that whoever founded the group thought that<br>
GNU/Linux was appropriate. See:<br>

Or perhaps you are actually asking why they took the same position as<br>
RMS and the FSF et al ...<br>
