Instead I opt for a combined<br>approach of weekly newsletters, and hive-mind filtering.<br><br>Depending on your interests and the job you're in, I'd recommend the<br>following weekly email newsletters:<br><br>devops weekly<br>ruby weekly<br>javascript weekly<br>html5 weekly<br>nosql weekly<br>tech leadership news<br><br>then to supplement that, I follow the right people on Twitter, hang<br>out in IRC at least one evening a week, and have regular lunches and<br>dinners with other people in my industry. And I'll also occasionally<br>read hackurls.com
when I find myself with some spare reading time.<br><br>I also wake up to BBC Radio 2 news and have breakfast until BBC 6<br>music news (currently), but only so as I don't look like a complete<br>idiot when scum masters start talking about who won X Factor this<br>week. Then when I get into work there might be an email waiting for<br>me about any industry-specific news I need to know.<br><br>This is not a fool proof system, but I generally know enough to get<br>by. Actually putting all of this incoming knowledge into practise<br>takes a lot more time, and so I tend to limit my non-tech,<br>non-industry news.
