There are some features that GNOME 3 has that I particularly like. Unity doesn't have those and it has the annoying common menu, which I know you can kill. I now much prefer GNOME 3 to GNOME 2. I think that Ubuntu are now including GNOME 3 in the later versions are they not? Unity.<br>
Earlier versions had too many minor issues that made it annoying
to use (I've only used it full time since 12.04), now most of that
is ironed its reasonable to use and is reasonably tweakable with
the third party tools such as Ubuntu Tweak and Unsettings (my
preference).<br>
I am still not as comfortable with it as I was with Gnome 2. But I
did configure Gnome 2 desktop to have a MS Window style layout and
I do still use Windows daily, so it may be an adjustment thing as
I've only used Unity seriously for 9 months.<br>
<br>
When I get time I do want to have a go a configuring an XFCE
environment (app selection + config) to my liking and see how it
compares to Unity.<br>

I am Nick Rhodes. A 35 year old family guy and Software Developer with
15+ years commercial experience, mostly with MS asp.net do web based
business systems. In a few weeks I am swapping departments to be a full

Been a Linux user for around 5 years thanks to the influence of another
long time Linux dev/user that some of you may know, Martyn (/me waves) .
My first exposure to Linux was at Uni where we used a mix of
Linux/Windows and OS9 machines.
My first distro was Slackware, used to install a Quakeworld server for
our Uni house LAN gaming sessions. I use Ubuntu generally as it usually
works the best of the box for what I need.
I have in the past contributed lots code to an obscure PHP CMS project
and a steady flow of bug reports, work arounds and suggested fixes/code
to the various software [projects] I have used from Drupal CMS modules
to Ubuntu udev rules for USB wifi devices. I tend to prefer to help with
support than code (as my day job is coding), helping out on various
forums (generally smaller community ones) and Wiki when I have the time.
