[Chester LUG] Android update.

Hi Stuart,

I have recently updated my Google G1 HTC Dream using the Cyanogenmod
unofficial ROMs and went from Android 1.6 to 2.1. The phone company only
supports up to V1.6.

The instuctions given on Cyanogen's site are comprehensived and worked
(including repartitioning the phone!).

I have successfully backed up and restored the phone subsequently with the
quite nice utilities included.

Have a look at the site.

This was my first attempt at hacking a mobile but the vocabulary is familiar
to Unix/Linux users.

Still felt traumatic flashing the phone though.

Good luck.

Regards

Nick Northcote

Hi Everyone,

As I have pretty much come to the end of my contract and now have a Desire
HD (Looked at the Desire Z but the screen is smaller and looks v easy to
break :/

Anyhow it comes with Android 2.2. I know it's all about provider "optimised"
versions, but I'd love to have latest non branded up to date Android.

Has anyone done this/knows how to do it (Without running dodgy hacked ROMs)

Regards

Stuart
