Been on a course this week to learn about an old system we use called a kent 
p4000.

Now that is a no messing around operating system....
 Fits in 32k
 Programmed entirely in pdp11 assembly
 Has kernel and user modes
 no boot up process....it reads the system from a  2mb memory image on the hd, 
you can dump the memory at any time to create a new 'core' image to boot from 
in the event of failure
 To shut it down, u, um, 'crash' it :) 'command [esc]#crash' :o)
