[cumbria_lug] Ubuntu 9.04 -> 9.10 upgrade failure warning

Just a word of caution - I upgraded my 9.04 install on my X60 laptop on
Friday and it left the machine in a non-bootable state. I've ended up
having to install a fresh copy because the suggestions of a fix on the
internet didn't work for me. The one PITA was the mysql databases - I
had to use the alternate install cd and boot a rescue on the old
partition so that I could mysqldump the databases out.

All this would have been much more of a PITA if I hadn't had to do
something similar a couple of months back when I upgraded from debian to
ubuntu. I split the disk into two separate equal size partition so could
mount old partition on the new install to transfer everything across. It
worked a treat - I'd not thought of doing that before and will keep it
as a way of working if I can afford the disk space.

Regards, Mark.
