You're better off sticking with Flash 10...it's a lot more stable than 9 on Linux to be frank. And yes sadly it only use V4L2.

I can't check the forums at the moment (email on phone) but try searching the Ubuntu forums about your webcam and V4L2 - the driver I believe is called something like pwc (it might be Logitech, but the internals are Philips - so pwc = Philips webcam(!)). I honestly can't remember if it does work with V4L2, but as I mentioned...probably not as it's old, but still worth checking out.
Just wondering...do you have Skype? IF so, does it work in there?

In EKiga - go to settings and in video devices, change the video plugin to V4L from V4L2. It should then work. If it does - let us know. V4L is a bit old and outdated, they're making use of V4L2 these days (Flash moved to V4L2, Skype I think use V4L2 only etc)

Your camera's quite outdated and I think they're moving onto V4L2 and I'm not certain if there is a driver available that make use of V4L2. I've got a Quickcam Pro 4000 around somewhere so if I find it I'll test but in my office in Croydon, I've got an even older and crappier Logitech webcam which I can test too.

What webcam is it?

If your camera use the GPCSA (not sure of the spelling) - a recent update broke that...think it's a kernel update that caused it rather than something in Ubuntu - but there should be a new version that fix it but not yet in the updates - so suggest that you go to Software Sources in the System menu, and go to the Updates tab.
Check for updates...if there's a fix in one of them, it'll get included and hopefully one of them is for your camera.

But it does help if I have the model of your camera.

For example, I have a new Sony SZ laptop and the MotionEye camera is a Ricoh model, and the driver is R5u870 - however the maintainer have stated that the driver is broken for the 2.6.26+ kernels (and since 8.10 is using 2.6.27 that's me out of luck until it's fixed)
