postgresql is quite a mature product and has more "enterprise" features
than MySQL, but MySQL is making good progress in this area.

MySQL excels in simple SQL queries and makes am ideal backend for a lot
of websites.

If you need more Oracle type features but with open source, look at
Postgresql and Max DB (formally SAP DB, now under the Stewardship of
MySQL).
