Yes, I always like the excuse given during audits for storing data in a 
spreadsheet (instead of a database) "We don't perform calculations, we just 
store data", which can be interpreted as "We don't perform calculations, so 
we'll store our data in something specialised for calculations".
If you are not performing calculations, use a text file. Better still, if you 
are storing data, use the correct tool (hint: the clue is in the word "data").
