1. You used to be able to download publisher and use it for 30 days as a trial 
(MS's preferred solution).

2. You can ask the sender to save as an RTF file

3. There are some freeware viewers:

4. There is another converter at http://www.zamzar.com/ - same caveats apply

Only 2 will give you a Linux solution
