I have not finished reading this thread since its a chunck and i want to go to the pub but i want to add another point

the original idea was not the educational side of the OLPC this is just an envolvement

as one knows (out of current or past experiences) text books are expensive, not just buying but paper is heavy and shipping costs increas - thereby giving text books to contries cost more then it should
now here come along some people and go hang on a sec we could just give them a pc and then give them the books in pdf and here is the underlying benefit, its cheaper to supply learning material to exsiting structures (with which i mean classes which have teachers)
grading can not be done by an OLPC laptop but the originall idea of a cheaper txt book has eveolved into a neat solution

the problem i see with MS is that they are a buisness oriantated structure they want profit (of which they are producing loads) and (referencing to history) like to 'borrow' stuff from other people, here comes the underlying problem with open source user, they do things for the greater benefit aswell as using other programming structures referening to the bazzar one ( am doing some catch up reading)
as well as MS hinders educated (as in techies) to do a lot and they dont like to help them (and if they do i never really got their point, just like i never find anything i want to know from microsoft help files)

on a final point although bill gave away loads of money to charity (most of his money) he could have made the world a better place by making less profit

cheerio, I need a beer
