i've yet to try out e17 per-se, but have used gOS (googleOS), which uses their version of it (used gnome too if i remember correctly). was quite impressed indeed. very nimble, and not in anyway sacraficing functionality to achieve it's nimbleness.

currently i'm using sabayon linux, and running mettise on gnome. it has some nifty functionality features i dont think i could go back to not having anymore. not sure if it's part of metisse or what, but the nine-times the size desktop to click n lock (or drag freely) to position desktop seems far more functionally practical and much more often used than the fancy beryl box.

sabayon wins the prize so far for being best outta the box. prizes i'm handing out anyways. ;)

still, i think it likely when i build my own stripped down (rather, built up) personal system, i'll use enlightenment.

It speaks in the language of hope; It speaks in the language of trust; It speaks in the language of strength, and the language of compassion. It is the language of the heart and the language of the soul. But always, it is the same voice. It is the voice of our ancestors, speaking through us, And the voice of our inheritors, waiting to be born. It is the small, still voice that says: We are one. No matter the blood; skin; world; star; We are one. No matter the pain; darkness; loss; fear; We are one. Here, gathered together in common cause. we agree to recognise this singular truth, and this singular rule: That we must be kind to one another, because each voice enriches us and ennobles us, and each voice lost diminishes us. We are the voice of the Universe, the soul of creation, the fire that will light the way to a better future. We are one.
