I have the same Dell Inspiron mentioned above and would also suggest this as a good choice. In general Dell laptops (and PCs) I've had all have very good Linux compatability. I don't know whether it's still a possibility any more but I know you used to be able to get some money back if you didn't use the preinstalled version of Windows... was that from the supplier of MS?
Also there's obviously the Linux Dell laptops, The
I've also used Linksys in the past for routers and have found them to be good.

On Mon, Jun 16, 2008 at 5:45 PM, Johnš <seago.john@googlemail.com> wrote:
I'm afraid that the spec seemed to meet the bill of web mail and browsing
with a minimum screen size of 14", so I' ve ordered one of these:
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?NNB-587 withiout the
operating system. this means I may be yelling for help to get Slackware
into/onto it, but as others think it runs well with Ubuntu and That came
with this issue of "Linux Format", Im not too worried at the prospect.
Thanks to everyone for their help and suggestions. It was the
uk.comp.os.linux newsgroup that pointed towards this particular product.
