I've noticed a big drop in the quality of the repositories since the last release, packages being removed for seemingly no reason. pypanel is gone, tint2 is gone, trayer is gone, and in order to get these, it's source or other workaround (such as temporarily changing repos which i ahte since tis very sloppy) but overalll i love the distro despite these little niggles.

There's a lot of good things about Debian, but...

mysql built from source doesn't work on Lenny, the binary doesn't work on Lenny, and the dpkg (which does work) installs exim and some MTA I don't want and don't need as depedencies. Wtf? The only reason I noticed exim was there was because I was playing around with 'top' and 'ps' the other day. Since the primary source of security holes on Windows was always the extra unneeded and unasked for services it set up, why is one of the most famous Linux distros doing the same with the most used OS database? *

That was the last thing. I get some stupid niggle like that every day. Yes, it's very easy to apt-get remove exim... etc etc, but I find that sort of stuff mega sloppy.

Nothing is, IMO, but I even started hankering for Windows the other day.

what particular aspects of debian are hacking you off? I've just migrated to debian myself, and I'm loving it. :D

On Wed, Aug 5, 2009 at 2:56 PM, Iain Barnett <iainspeed@gmail.com> wrote:
Sorry, forgot to add that I did try out some haskell tutorials and
eventually installed Xmonad on it and it worked with no problems but
am still not up to messing about with the config files... yet. :-)

Hope this helps.
