CDS, for those interested). It came without even an Ethernet ability,
although it had a mini pci telephone modem. I’ve acquired a telephone
modem and Ethernet mini pci card which fits perfectly. I have two
problems due to the fact that it doesn’t appear to be seen by Xubuntu nor to

</span></span></span>The internal plug to the actual Ethernet port on
the laptop – which fixes into the board - is not “handed” and I have no idea

</span></span></span>I do not know how to check whether the system
can even see the board and whether it is loading drivers for it.</p><div> <br class="webkit-block-placeholder"></div><p class="MsoNormal">I have just acquired a PCMCIA ethernet board for the machine
but I’d still like to understand how to check out the mini pci board and get it
working. The machine was obviously intended to be able to be able to be
fitted with an upgrade like this, as it has the port and cable fitted as
standard. You will understand that this is being done for fun and to
learn, so “get a decent computer” is simply not relevant to what I’m doing.</p><div> <br class="webkit-block-placeholder"></div><p class="MsoNormal">It even runs (well walks is probably nearer the truth) on
Xubuntu 12.04 with its 6 GB HDD and 288 MB memory. Eventually I intend to
use it to drive my wife’s kiln (something it is entirely capable of) which will
mean putting a much lighter version of Linux on it, so I need to learn as much
