Hi

Just got this through on e-mail. I know there was talk of buying one,
I think it would be better to perhaps see if the fabspace could get one.
as then there will be a permanent storage spare for it, it would get
used more often, etc.

http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/products/7933506/?cm_mmc=Responsys-_-InsertCat-_-InsertPla-_-InsertIte
cost £499

Question is do you get a roll of the filament with this, when you buy
it, when you buy a new printer you get both inks with it, or toner if
its a laser printer, so you would need to add £29.90 to the price,
how much can you make with 1 roll, so you may have to buy several,

the costs of running could mount up,. its also storage and moving it
around, plus its at the mercy of other people who are likely to knock
it, bang it with something else, at a fab space the only people who are
likely to have access to the room are other hackers, geeks . techies so
we have more respect for delicate equipment, you don't want it on a
shelf, where someone can walk in with a toddler for example with
inquisitive hands and that child thinks ohh and starts touching (they
are young kids, the touch things). they climb, on things, grab things.
while an adults back is turned. it only takes a few seconds for a child
to drown in a bath, it will take the same time to wreck a 3d printer.

Plus don't forget you will need a computer + software and a way to get
the designs in to the computer, to be replicated, so scanners, webcams
set up so it can take 3d images of objects.

witha fab space we as a group could chip in to buy the printer, and
then chip in to covert the costs

filament is £29.90 x 8 colours = £239.20 chances are you may need 2 of
each colour as there is a chance that you will run out during a print run so

£239.20 x 2 = £478.40

I don't have a problem with us having one, just looking at the figures.

if the fab space takes off, and there are 100 members then that works
out at £4.78 each.
