Erk. I'm not actually anything to do with lug.org.uk. I'm more of what
you might call a "facilitator". :) I happen to have had some time on
my hands, I'm a nag, and I happen to know the right people (that's not
meant in a "I know and you don't" kind of way, more a "I just happen
to know who has the box, so I gave him a sound poke!").

Fact is the box that is currently running lug.org.uk, that is the UK
LUG mailman mailing lists and their associated web based archives, the
UK LUG websites and the databases behind them and any other facilities
is somewhat broken. It has issues completing round-trip TCP
communications. Theory is packets get dropped or otherwise lost and
thus any traffic appears to be delayed - as you've noticed with this
mailing list. It's also located in a facility that isn't easy to get
to, so diagnosis and troubleshootnig is somewhat problematic. Coupled
with a bunch of admins who are (whilst incredibly skilled) very busy.

Lug.org.uk has been donated a new server by DNUK, which has been
upgraded (memory) by some of the members of Hampshire LUG. It has had
Linux installed and is ready to be co-located. The penultimate link in
the chain is driving the box to the facility in docklands. The final
link is to move services (web, mail etc) over from the existing box to
this nice new one.

Hope that explains things.

Cheers,
Al.
