Perhaps you should add to this;

The desktop environments do prefer to have a 'compliant' window
manager; one that understands the desktop environment and can play
nicely with it. KDE supplies its own compliant window manager, kwm;
you're not forced to use this, but many people do, and practically
no-one uses kwm without KDE. As a result, there is a tendency to
confuse properties of KDE with properties of kwm.
