I think it might be the only way, their web site isn't very helpful, the
Redhat site was better.

Have you tried asking IBM? They are quite keen on Linux and make it
available for some RS/6000s (and even ship B50s with it preinstalled).
It's also available for S/390. So I wouldn't be surprised if they have
done some work on connecting it to an ESS.
