The principle goes something like:

- configure your machine to use a disk writer sound driver, rather
  than sending output to a real sound card
- play the real audio file as normal
- compress the resulting file with oggenc (or whatever)

However, I've never tried it. Apart from anything else, Real Audio files
are usually of such apalling quality that compressing them to mp3 or ogg
probably isn't going to be worth it.

Alternatively, pay Real Networks bucketloads of cash for the professional
version of their encoder products.
