[Gllug] Potential dodgy hard drive? What to do

~   General rather than specific experience tells me that the larger the
~drive capacity the greater the need for adequate cooling of the drive, and
~the lower the temperature the longer the problem-free life. Computers
~specifically designed as long-life servers have large airflows past the
~drives.

Following on from this, I'd suggest popping the drive into a 5 1/4"
bay so it's not too close to other HDDs (if you have a couple of bays
free) and then popping one of the snazzy pairs of bay fans in above or
below it. They cost about £6 and are pretty quiet. I try and have an
inch or so airgap between drives, and as many case fans as I can fit
in. This means I've got a full tower that sounds like Concorde taking
off...
