Step 1: Don't!

Seriously - 2.4.15 has a filesystem corruption bug. It's _very_ likely
to corrupt your fs when umounting it, and yet mark the fs clean. fsck
can fix the problem but as it's marked clean it's not gonna try. Using
the corrupted filesystem after a reboot is likely to cause all kinds of
unfunny problems.

Step 2: install 2.4.16-pre1 or 2.4.15-pre8, touch /etc/forcefsck and
reboot (or shutdown -F -r now).
