[Gllug] Handspring Treo 180

I have been trying to hot-sync my Handspring Treo to my Linux box but am not 
getting very far.  Has anyone had any success with one of these devices and 
can they offer any useful suggestions ?

Details are

PC is a laptop running RH7.3
Serial connection /dev/ttyS1 linked to /dev/pilot  with 666 permissions
jpilot version 0.99-87

Have also tried gnome-pilot (0.1.64-3) and kpilot (kdepim-pilot4.3)
