Looks like some people have been working on it already and have
reverse-engineered the protocol:

http://pm2erglib.sourceforge.net/

<snip>

The PM2Erglib project is centered around the Concept2 PM2+ performance
monitor, the monitor that comes as an option to the Concept2 ergometer indoor
rower.
What can you find here?

Protocol documentation for the PM2+ serial interface protocol, including all
setup commands and commands you need for running races! See the documentation
for pm2d to find out everything known today : pm2d.pdf!

Some small tools for the PM2+ protocol (on the CVS tree)

pm2d, a daemon for Unix systems that interfaces between graphical desktop
programs and the PM2+ (see below)

Subject: [Gllug] Concept II - RS232 Protocol

Dear mr Jackson

I am a member of the rowingclub Skoll in the Netherlands,
we would like to connect our rowing machines to a computer
which saves data in a database.
We would like to do this ona OpenBSD machine, unfortunately
the software Concept II delivers is only useful on windows.

In an email you stated (tue aug 21 2001;
http://list.ftech.net/pipermail/gllug/2001-August/011582.html) you do have the
specifications for the
prptocol the ergometers use.
Is it possible to obtain the specifications for me as well?

thx in advance
