[Gllug] Mysql help !!!

I have installesd a groupware package called Sherpath and have it's files in
/var/www/html/Sherpath.  It is a php app with a mysql front  end and uses my
apache server.  When I try to connect using a browser  I get "mysql module
(mysql_connect) not found" I have tried finding some reference to this but
seem to be swimming in unrelated info.  Can anyone give me some pointers eg
is it an apache module is a php or a mysql issue so I can at least narrow
down mty search for documentation this all being new to me
