Can't say we count,   but we do re-read each tape backed-up and compare its
contents against the original.  If a tape is going flaky it will show up then.
Tapes can lose their recorded info over time, but I doubt any given tape will
degrade in the 24 hour 'window' between being written to and its contents being
superseded be the next tape written in the cycle.
