Darren,
  If this is a company project which you stated, this would be a good 
time to bring in some experts (like IBM) as they handle things like this 
all the time and have the issue solved.  Doing it yourself will be 
re-inventing the wheel, and while that is fun, it is usually less 
expensive to bring in an expert, especially in the long run.
