I have much the same, serving 2 printers and 1 scanner, but made it
completely silent by not having a hard disc in it at all.  This also of
course makes it cheaper and reduces the power consumption.  It has only
64M of RAM in it, which is more than enough.

If you are going to put a HD in one of these cases without a fan then
I'd mount the case vertically.  That way you get a through flow of air
due to convection.
