Some help, please from those who have experience:

Are the Linux Professional Institute Exams worthwhile in practice?

I have been planning to put my trainee staff through LPI 1&2.

I have not done these myself, so had a good look at the exam samples in
the Ross Brunson book suggested by the LPI as the 'most up-to-date' example.

While there is much of general *nix relevance covered in
these exams (more than say MCSE's) I was troubled to see
how out-of-date they are.

For example the training exams include stuff on kernel 2.2, LILO,
sendmail, lp style printing (not CUPS), and many other things that I
sincerely doubt any of my staff will ever encounter.

Aptitude (for Debian) and YUM (for RPM) are not covered at all, only
base dpkg and rpm.

I appreciate that exams will inevitably slip behind practice.

My questions:

- Are the exams this out-of-date?
- Is the certification of any use?
