There new filesystems appearing for 2.6.30 kernel - well OK, you might not
want to experiment with your videos though!

ps. regarding hardware, I would look at a Supermicro chassis with hot-swap
disks.
They do a nice 24-slot chassis which takes 2.5 inch disks, but I guess you
would be wanting 3.5 inch.
