I did try, and fail, to explain that the word 'probation' would only 
indicate the employment terms, not really the role. Which, to me 
atleast, means that we wont really expect the candidates to be up and 
running on the production side of things in a few days, we'd quite like 
them to start slow and build the process and skills that are needed to 
get into a production mindset. And so, the word probation gets into the 
mix. Where we have a bunch of people sitting in the office, who may or 
may not really be contributing to 'production' in their early days, 
weeks or months.

Dont get me wrong, they *will* be doing things. We have quite an 
extensive, and growing, development and test platform. There will be in 
excess of 100 machine instances in -devel and -test roles by the end of 
this year. Also, one would expect the group to have different levels of 
capabilities, providing some level of grown and learning/training within 
the group itself.
