Which iPod exactly?

Newer models most likely will not be recognized by Linux because the
good geniuses at Apple get out of their way to ensure this is so.

It will be all figured out by somebody, eventually, but in the
meantime you may be out of luck.

Older iPods work out of the box with Linux, I used to use AmaroK, but
when they "upgraded" to 2.x it became so horrible that I stopped using
it (nowadays I use simple drag and drop of files as needed, and in any
case, Android mobile phones can download Podcasts by themselves. Oh
wait, I forgot to say that I decided to stop playing Apple's cat an
mouse game when there are many other much more user friendly options
of music players for Linux users).
