Got the same experience with my Virgin ADSL.
Speeds at peak time are horrible, ping is up and down. IRC over SSH in a screen can feel like
a 28.8k modem connection sometimes. :-(
My connection syncs at close to 8Mbit and I that's the speed I get if I schedule a download
at say 4am in the morning. Very few outages though, I think it's just very very congested.
Bottom line, not recommended!

On Sat, Mar 1, 2008 at 11:56 AM, Ashley Evans <ashley@k2.com> wrote:
Best I've used in the past few years is Bethere (24meg adsl2 with consistent service, good speeds, cheap, static ip option)

Subject: [Gllug] Anyone using Virgin Media?

Woohoo, just signed my life away for a flat in Crawley and so I am in
need of a broadband provider.

I am looking at the bundles Virgin( www.virginmedia.com ) has and it
looks like I can actually reduce my bills by about a tenner a month
overall for phone, mobile, broadband and I get bonus tv channels to
boot.

The modem provided has an Ethernet connection so the questions are;

Anyone here using them for their broadband over their fibre-optic lines?

How does the service compare with other providers you have used?

Any insight appreciated. Tiscali will never see another £ of mine again
and my current operator ukonline has some interruptions but not too
many, I expect similar from most providers.
