Hi

I wish to flash the BIOS on my laptop. I have the file to run to make a bootable floppy

Unfortunately the various Linux (inc Live CD’s) I have tried have not been able to recognise enough drives at the same time for me to be able to make the floppy. (If it was possible to do this on a Windows PC it would not be a problem but it needs to be done on a Linux PC)

I have now spent a lot of time on this. I have learnt a smidgeon more but I have run out of options so more waste of time could some kind person produce a floppy for me from the file SP28651.tar which can be found at:

http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/hpcpqnk/us/download/21685.html

(Note: For reasons best known to HP this url shows "…21685" but the web page it refers to provides the file "…28651" which is what is wanted. Confirmation is at the bottom of the page where can be seen "HP Compaq Business Notebook nx5000 All Models" - I have an HP nx5000 laptop)

It is a matter of extracting from the SP28651.tar file then from a shell running the command:
sh sp28651.sh
Then "follow the on-screen instructions to create either a bootable diskette or a CD"

Additional complication - Please note that I think I am fairly cut off at the moment. If I go to
http://mailman.lug.org.uk/pipermail/herefordshire/2005-April/date.html#start
I see "Last message date: Sat Apr 30 21:59:19 BST 2005"

I have received about 3 emails later than that, but I suspect that there have been more, in which case I am not receiving all.

Thus, since HLUG is full of very helpful and obliging people, if anyone is able to assist, please communicate amongst yourselves in such a way as to avoid more than one person kindly doing the work, and please copy any emails that need to reach me to
edwardfw@aol.com

I hope to make the meeting on 19th if there is one thus if anyone can do a floppy and attends please bring it. Happy to pay for a floppy and if I don't make the meeting or there isn't one, for P&P

Regards, Edward Fowler-Wright
