Hi

I attended my first Herts LUG last night and thought I might use this
list to let you know who I am. I was the tall one with glasses. Hang on,
that's not much help. I was wearing a stripy blue shirt.

I live in Arlesey and have been using computers for at least 25 years in
various forms. I started at school on a Teletype to the local college,
had a couple of 'home' computers (BBC and some Amigas) before my first
PC (Windows at the time). I've been following Linux for some time and
always fancied the look of it. I dabbled with dual booting, but now have
a dedicated PC running Mandrake 10.0 as my main PC. I've got it doing
most of what I need, but need to explore areas such as video editing and
audio recording.

I've worked in IT for about 16 years during which I've programmed in
various Basics, Pascal, C++ and dBase. I currently work for a company
supplying software to TV stations using Magic (a RAD tool) and Oracle
PL/SQL with the odd bit of Java. I'm trying to get back into some
recreational programming by playing with Python.

My computing interests include the 'Semantic web' and encryption. I'm
not an expert on either, but I find them fascinating. If anyone wants to
exchange GPG/PGP signatures we can coordinate that at one of the meetings.

See you at the next meeting.
