[Herts] Audio Card---No mic i/p

Good morning James,
I tried your suggestion with .asoundrc but this file does not recognise
my sound blaster card.
'lspci' shows there is a Multimedia audio controller creative labs SB
Audigy LS at 00.0d.0
I have disabled the "On Board" sound in the BIOS (although that didn't
work either)
the sound card works OK in Windows and in Ubuntu 6.10 all of the outputs
work OK, it is just the Mic input which is silent.
A further clue would be much appreciated.
