I've already posted but Les makes some
interesting points which have got me thinking. There
was me looking at the blue sky potential of the
technology, forgetting that it has immediate benefits
to provide.
One does wonder however, who pays? And who pays
when European funding and sponsorship dries up? Might
we not merely be replacing one robber baron for one of
our own?
Perhaps that is slightly negative, certainly it
would guarantee Huddersfield a mention in G2 on a
Thursday if nothing else (The Guardian just plain
loves Wi-Fi!), and perhaps a wireless version of the
GPL might be created, something along the lines of a
fair price for a fair bandwidth - that £150 p.a. does
sort of sound tempting, especially for the use of a
satellite.
