Continuing WYLUG's series of Introductory talks, the Next meeting has
Geoff Richards doing an intro on the dreaded "bash" command line. The
command line tends to phase Windows only users that come new to Linux.
They may have bad vibes from having used the DOS command line. Rest
assured, once you learn to drive bash it has oodles of features that make
you wonder how come the DOS command line is so aweful!

                          The Dreaded Command Line:
                 Easier to Use and More Powerful Than Expected

                       The Alcatel Speedtouch USB Modem
          Rik Wade (person who does "stuff" with IP Networks and Unix)

  In this presentation I will be looking at getting up and running with
  the Alcatel Speedtouch USB modem using Linux. The Speedtouch modem was
  one of the first available to the UK market and is still the standard
  one provisioned by BT with an IPStream ASDL line for home users. Its USB
  design makes it easy to connect to most home PCs. However, it was
  plagued by somewhat abysmal drivers during the early days of its life.
  Fortunately, it is possible to get it working under Linux.

                             "Building an XML CMS"
                    Nik Jewell, Tom Hebbron and Chris Tebb

  The Philosophical and Religious Studies Subject Centre of the Learning
  and Teaching Support Network (PRS-LTSN), based at the University of
  Leeds, are currently building an Open Source XML Content Management and
  Delivery System.  The system comprises a backend object-relational
  database in PostgreSQL a CMS interface in PHP and Java, and content and
  metadata output in multiple formats via Apache Tomcat-Cocoon. Java and
  XSLT are used throughout the system. This is still work in progress, but
  the talk will be of particular interest to PostgreSQL and XML
  developers, and to those interested in Content Management Systems in
  general.
