[Hudlug] Lost networked printer

The debian laptap happily printed over the lan until yesterday.  Now I 
only see lp as an option, and no possibility of adding a networked 
printer.  I checked cups client.conf and the printer server is there.  
I checked that pinging the server by name is no problem.  What else 
could be interfering?
