reverse engineer, reimplement, rebuild is a suitable 3 key moniker for this, its like people buying the ageing food from a supermarket 

because its cheap then ending up on the toilet for two days and
complaining to the supermarket! You can't force another to be
responsible for your choices or you'll find you've made the wrong one.

No you'd buy a bleedin' automatic in the first place.
