Some progress at last.<br>
<br>
Having got very simple networking cracked, I now am baffled by how to
address my two printers from WinXP under VirtualBox. When using
Mandriva/PCLOS I set the address of the printers as
'<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://192.168.2.2:631/printers/cups-printer-name">http://192.168.2.2:631/printers/cups-printer-name</a> and it just worked.<br>
<br>
Now the kubuntu distro has identified my printers as
usb://EPSON/Stylus%20Photo%20RX520 and usb://OKI%20DATA%20CORP%2014ex<br>
<br>
I've tried variations of that in the WinXP network printer set-up but
it refuses to find them. <br>
<br>
I'm still very new to ubuntu/kubuntu setups. Any suggestions anyone?<br>

for that pointer David. I am still having problems but haven't
exhausted all possibilities yet. I will add that one to the list.<br>
<br>
Linux Mint claims to be son of Ubuntu. Hah! It don't do sudo but it
doesn't say it doesn't. So you do a sudo and it just comes back
'command not found'. So you think the command is faulty of something.<br>
<br>
Actually with Mint you have to do su then password just like in
Mandriva and others. Then you can make the commands. That left me lost
for functions for 24 hours!<br>
<br>
Now there's something I've learned today.<br>
<br>
Still baffled, still trying. I'll get there. Thanks to all for the
suggestions.<br>

If you don't have a Microsoft computer why not use openssh and sshfs
for<br>
networking. In Konqueror you can type<br>
fish://username@computername to get access.<br>
fish is another ssh application.<br>
<br>
ssh -Xl username computername gives you console control of the other<br>
machine and<br>
sshfs username@computername:/home/$username/
/home/localuser/directory<br>
lets you mount it.<br>

All on one password<br>
