Speaking as a retired linguist, and (my wife says) a confirmed Victor Meldrew, can I (safely?) comment that the word gender is frequently misused these days - particularly by the politically correct.<br>

The word you want is sex which differentiates betwixt male and female.<br>
<br>
Gender is a grammatical term to differentiate betwixt masculine, feminine and neuter in linguistics.<br>
<br>
Should I now duck?<br>
