All very true. The LUG did originally have a committee or rather it
was a part of one of the original hosting group we were with. That
committee went away when I broke from them, perhaps I should have
kept the idea going but not enough members at the time.<br>
<br>
I think it would benefit from having more structure as I know what
you two guys have to go through, it was too much for one (me), its
a lot for two (you two) so more hands will help. But it needs to be
a little more formal I think, people then know who to properly
contact, what areas various people are responsible for. OK it
shouldn't get to the point where its like being at work, we are
doing this for fun, but there needs to be structure to make things
move and for decision making et.<br>
<br>
The number of members I don't know any more but there should be
enough to form one and make it work. If those of us who want to sort
out local events then lets do it. I am willing to step back up and
sort a local one out. I will post three root messages for the areas
I am prepared to work in. If one or better still more can run then
there is hope.<br>
<br>
And echoing Dan, come on everyone, this will only work if we all
muck in. Don't mind if some can't really spare the time but we
either want this LUG or not.<br>
<br>
Thanks<br>

<div>OK there has been a lot of posts recently with people
offering ideas and stating the way in which KLUG should be
run. </div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div> The original idea of the KLUG roadshow was that we would
move around Kent and try to bring KLUG as near to people as
possible. We have never managed to find a venue Tonbridge way
which would be good. Overall though I think the ashford/
medway/ dover route has served us well. We
get reasonable turnouts and different faces at each venue.
Please bear in mind that venues need to be free and have
internet connectivity. We have asked many times for help
finding venues but it's tricky, people change jobs etc. There
is no natural catchment due to public transport and a hundred
other factors we get who we get, some people will travel and
some won't it's as simple as that.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>What is very true is increasingly it seems that KLUG will
only continue to work if it's members step up to the plate and
get involved. </div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>We already do almost all the things mentioned in Lucs post
a week back, we do talks, show and tell, token talks etc. The
problem is whenever we ask on the mailing list for input into
these no one answers and steps forward with a talk or the
offer of guest speaker or similar (this is with the exception
of a handful of members). Likewise there have been suggestions
of move KLUG to a new time but no one steps up with a venue
that will fit into those times.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Perhaps something like this might better - what do yo
think?: </div>
<div><a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="http://hulllug.org/2010/09/08/comittee-elections-2010/"
target="_blank">http://hulllug.org/2010/09/08/comittee-elections-2010/</a></div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Perhaps there should be a scheduled IRC meeting to discuss
this and other ideas?</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>We have always said that KLUG is open and if people want to
set up social meetings or other events like BBQs then they
can. But again no one steps up, volunteers and actually
follows through. The exception to this is Faversham LUG which
seems to be working well purely because of the effort Jake is
putting into it. If anyone else wants to set up a sub group
then go for it. KLUG will promote you on it's website and you
can post to our lists to drum up support.</div>
